Another defeat at the Green

Saturday saw the visit of high flying Thrapston 3rd XI to The Green, against a low on confidence Willoughby.

Thrapston batted first, and were soon reduced to 15/3 courtesy of excellent opening spells from Fergus Deery and Ramanaidu Mudragada. However, Willoughby's pressure began to wilt in the face of some determined batting from Dennis and Mark Palmer. Quick to despatch any width but watchful in defence they soon began to rebuild the Thrapston innings.

Dennis Palmer eventually fell to Dave Alcock for a well made 49, but Mark was then joined by Ffrancon Williams who both went on the attack. Thrapston finished their 40 overs with 205 for the loss of 5 wickets. Ram with 3, Fergus and Dave 1 each were the wicket takers.

The Willoughby innings got off to a poor start, reduced to 2/2 after 3 overs, and then 13/3. Graham Hallam joined Dave Alcock at the crease and the pair started putting up some resistance, taking the score to 60 before Graham fell for 18.

Hayden Davies chipped in with 14, and Fergus with a useful 10 to notch up a batting point for the team, but Willoughby ended up well short on 143 all out. Dave Alcock finishing unbeaten with 73 not out.

A visit to Spencer Bruerne awaits next Saturday, and hopefully a change in fortunes for the 2s.
