Well that went well.........

Saturday saw Willoughby 2s return match with table topping Thrapston 3rds. Hopes were high after the previous weekends narrow victory over Northampton Saints.

Thrapston won the toss, and a little surprisingly chose to put Willoughby in to bat. However, that ended up proving to be a wise decision.
Another probing opening spell from Steven Walker, with considerable late away swing and occasional bounce, saw first Vikas Sangwan and then Ian Andrews dismissed for 13 and 5 respectively.
Brief resistance came from Matt Goss with 16 (including a straight 6 off the afore mentioned Walker) and Dave Alcock 14, the latter being given out LBW despite a thick inside edge - thick enough that the keeper wanted to call him back but the other players were having none of it. Possibly due to him scoring 70 odd against them in the previous match!
The innings rapidly subsided, with the next batting scores being 0,0,0,4,1,0,0 Not Out. All out for a very humbling 63.

The hope was that maybe a couple of quick early wickets could put some pressure on - or at least win Willoughby some bowling points. However, despite an excellent opening spell from Vikas Sangwan who beat the bat continuously and had 2 straight forward (and 1 slightly more difficult) catches dropped Thrapston eased to victory without losing a wicket in just 15 overs.

A day to forget for the Willoughby players - and hopefully a more solid performance in the next match. The holiday period will be impacting availability though - but if some key players return next weekend then maybe better fortunes await! At least it can't get much worse!!
